There is great power in taking a moment to focus your complete and caring attention on another human being. I remember one day, years ago, that something I read about parenting inspired me to stop everything and give my young son (three or four years old) my complete and undivided attention. My eyes and my thoughts were totally on him, and nowhere else. Within minutes, he began to glow in a way I had never seen before. He is 31 now, but it was such a powerful moment for me that I still remember it clearly.
My mom talked for years about a minister she used to know who had the gift of making the person he was talking with feel at that moment that they were the only person in the room. She, too, remembered that feeling for decades after he was gone.
This is something we can all learn to do if we choose to. With a little practice, I suspect we can all succeed at it. And the world will be a better place for it.
Blessings,
Orea
