My mom had a problem with the concept of eventually merging with the Divine. She was afraid she'd lose herself, her individuality, perhaps she thought that she would cease to exist. I wish I had had this answer for her.
You Will Still Be You
When you enter into the close, Divine Relationship with God, you will not lose anything of who you are. You may change in small ways -- all good ones -- but the essence of you and your individuality is
immutable. You are you, and you always will be you! Even when you come Home and merge with Me, you will still be you, only a fuller, richer, form of you.
I treasure your personality, your personal “quirks.” I treasure all of the little things that make you, you. Why, then, would I want to obliterate them?
Never fear that in the quest for “enlightenment,” any intrinsic aspect of your self will be lost. Some things may smooth over, some things may fall to the wayside, some things you may discard – but only if and as you choose to! You are always captain of your own ship, always the one at the helm.
That is how I want it, that is how you want it, that is what we agreed to.
You are your own creation as much as you are mine. And that is magnificent.
